This former quarry is currently in the process of being transformed into Kootenay Lake Village's Central Park. The design for Central Park features a number of areas specifically designed to appeal to the wide variey of potential uses and functions for Kootenay Lake Village residents.
Set at a higher grade, the upper passive area offers attractive views of the surrounding lake and mountains and a low-key area for relaxing, picnics or viewing the activities below. Access to this area is provided from both the perimeter trail and steps from below. The formal lawn area is a large, open space that can accommodate both organized and impromptu uses. Although primarily intended for recreation, this space will also host outdoor concerts and festivals in addition to functioning as an additional space for passive activities. Helping to further define this space, Saucer Magnolia trees offer shade and spectacular spring colour to the perimeter of the formal lawn. Anchoring the formal lawn area, is an open air structure with tables that could also act as a stage or bandstand for performances. On the lower level, a pathway provides separation between the formal lawn area and the kid's adventure playground. The playground area will incorporate elements to offer opportunities for play wile blending in with the surrounding environment. Located next to the road, the community garden provides garden plots for residents and their green thumbs. This area also features an on-site tree nursery and community landscaping stockpiles.
The expected completion of the park is Spring 2009.
